Is it worth it?

Add the normal one-way fares of the rides you plan within 7 days (from the fare charts at stations or a route planner).

Express, seat and Green car charges are usually not included in a pass: leave them out of the fares too unless the pass covers them.

    How to use it

    1. Buy online (credit card, up to 6 people) or get an exchange order from an overseas agent before travelling.
    2. In Japan, collect the pass at a JR exchange office (or a passport-reader reserved-seat ticket machine at some JR East and JR West stations) with your passport showing Temporary Visitor status.
    3. Put the pass through the automatic gate, or show it at a staffed gate. Carry your passport at all times.
    4. Reserve seats for free at ticket machines, ticket offices or (online buyers) on the reservation site.
    5. For Nozomi or Mizuho Shinkansen, buy the separate Nozomi/Mizuho ticket for Japan Rail Pass holders before boarding.
