Data & credits

Timetables (GTFS-JP)

Train, tram and bus times, stop locations and line shapes come from GTFS-JP files published via the GTFS Data Repository (api.gtfs-data.jp) and, for some buses, the ODPT public file API (api-public.odpt.org; only CC BY 4.0 and CC0 datasets). Each feed is credited to its publisher with its licence.

Railway network

All railway lines and stations: 「国土数値情報(鉄道データ、駅別乗降客数データ)」(国土交通省)を加工して作成 — MLIT National Land Numerical Information, railway data N02-24 (2024) and station passenger counts S12-25 (CC BY 4.0), open data, used with credit. English station names and kana readings: © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL); the matched name table is a derived database under the ODbL. Where OpenStreetMap has no English name, it comes from Japanese Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0): the title of the English article it links to, or the article's reading of the name, romanized for this guide; a few names with no English source are romanized for this guide. Line pages say when a name comes from there. Operator English names: common names compiled for this guide.

Ferries and island boats

Timetable counts, crossing times, fares, booking and ticket sales: the operators' own pages (and municipal or port pages), quoted on each route page with the date we checked them. Route lines and most port positions: © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL). Some port positions: 地理院地図 / GSI place search (国土地理院). Boat routes drawn dotted on the map come from OpenStreetMap only and have not been checked. English names of ports and islands are the operators' own where they publish them, otherwise romanised for this guide.

How-to and fares

Facts about boarding, payment, IC cards, accessibility and fares come from the operators' own public pages. We paraphrase and quote only short Japanese phrases, each linked to its source. The operator pages are not open-licensed: ask the operator before reusing their text beyond this guide.
