IC cards and payment in detail

ICOCA and all other nationwide transport IC cards (Suica, manaca etc.) can be used. Do not ride beyond the IC area with the card (JR Obama Line does not take IC cards): the card then stops working, and unstaffed stations cannot fix it. Through IC trips are possible within the through-ticketing area (e.g. Fukui – Osaka via Tsuruga; the IC card pays only the fare, buy the limited-express ticket separately). If you hold a JR ticket from Tsuruga, touch OUT at the transfer IC gate on the Tsuruga connecting corridor. Hapi-Line's own ICOCA costs ¥2,000 (incl. ¥500 deposit). Credit cards: at all windows for tickets (not ICOCA or top-ups); at staffed-station machines only for commuter passes; not at unstaffed-station machines or for fare adjustment. P

ICOCAを含め、交通系ICカード(Suica、manacaなど)は全て利用可能です。

Getting on

  1. Staffed stations are Awara-Onsen, Fukui, Sabae, Takefu and Tsuruga (customer counter). Buy a ticket at the window or ticket machine, or touch your IC card at the gate.
  2. Rapid trains need no extra charge. Trains run through to and from IR Ishikawa Railway (Kanazawa), so there is no need to change at Daishōji. At Tsuruga allow about 10 minutes to change to JR limited expresses (Thunderbird, Shirasagi) via the 2nd-floor corridor.

Getting on

  1. Ticket machines at Imajō, Nanjō, Ōshio, Kita-Sabae, Ōdoro, Echizen-Hanandō, Morita, Harue and Maruoka sell one-way, return and ride-set tickets and top up IC cards (cash).
  2. With an IC card, touch the reader at the station when you enter and when you leave.

Getting off

  1. If you could not buy a ticket for the Hapi-Line part (e.g. a short connection at Tsuruga) and get off where no staff are present: buy a ticket for the trip you made at the ticket machine and put it in the ticket/fare collection box at the gate, or put the exact fare in cash in that box (no change given).
Wheelchair assistance

Staff prepare a ramp and guide wheelchair users and others who need help: apply at least 2 days before travel to the head office (0776-20-0294, weekdays 8:30–17:15), Fukui Station (0776-24-2213, 9:30–17:00) or the window of your station. Depending on time and station facilities it may not be possible. Each train has a toilet in every two cars (Tsuruga-side car). Tel. 0776-20-0294
