IC cards and payment in detail

ICOCA and the other nationwide transport IC cards (card and mobile versions of ICOCA, Suica and PASMO) work as tickets on the Ainokaze Toyama Railway. Toyama Chitetsu's ecomyca card does not. You cannot ride with an IC card beyond the IC area from an Ainokaze station (e.g. to Itoigawa, or through to the JR Takayama Line, Echigo Tokimeki Railway or Hapi-Line Fukui): buy a ticket to your destination instead. Touch the reader at both ends; if a station is unstaffed and your card shows an error, report it at a staffed gate before your next ride. Ainokaze's own ICOCA (¥2,000 incl. ¥500 deposit, cash only) is sold at 14 staffed stations; it does not sell Suica or other cards. Credit cards are accepted at windows only for commuter passes and JR tickets. P

Getting on

  1. With an IC card: touch the reader on the ticket gate (it lights blue) when you enter and again when you leave.
  2. Otherwise buy a ticket at the station before boarding.
  3. The Ainokaze Liner is all-reserved: buy a ¥300 liner ticket at a Liner-stop station window (or from the conductor) and sit in the seat printed on it. Liner tickets are not sold at ticket machines.
  4. Seishun 18 tickets are generally not valid (only for through journeys between JR lines via Tsubata–Toyama or Takaoka–Toyama).
