Crossing into another areaYou cannot ride between the Fukuoka–Saga–Nagasaki–Oita–Kumamoto, Kagoshima and Miyazaki SUGOCA areas, or out of an area, on an IC card: buy a ticket for the whole trip.
Other JR Kyushu areas (a journey cannot cross into them on an IC card): SUGOCA area: Kagoshima, SUGOCA area: Miyazaki.
Good to know
- Since 9 Oct 2025 the former Nagasaki area is part of this area (Omura Line added), so trips such as Nagasaki–Sasebo via the Omura Line can be paid by card.
- Heisei Chikuho Railway (at Yukuhashi) and Hisatsu Orange Railway (at Yatsushiro and Sendai) do not take SUGOCA: pay at the station or on board.
- SUGOCA (and other IC card) balance cannot pay for the Kyushu or Nishi-Kyushu Shinkansen: buy a ticket.
- At unstaffed stations, always tap the simple SUGOCA reader when you enter and when you leave.
