ICOCA and the other nationwide transport IC cards work as tickets. Through IC journeys are possible only between IR Ishikawa and Ainokaze Toyama Railway or between IR Ishikawa and Hapi-Line Fukui, not from Ainokaze straight through to Hapi-Line. ICOCA (IR original design, ¥2,000 incl. ¥500 deposit) is sold at the staffed windows (Kaga-Onsen, Komatsu, Matsutō, Kanazawa, Tsubata) and at multi-function ticket machines; top up at machines with the IC mark. You can also buy a paper ticket with the ICOCA balance at IC-ready machines. P

Getting on
With an IC card: touch the reader at the ticket gate at both ends of your trip.
Otherwise buy a ticket at the ticket machine or at the window (Kaga-Onsen, Komatsu, Matsutō, Kanazawa, Tsubata). Windows take credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, JCB, AMEX, Diners, Discover); machines take cards only for commuter passes.
Trains run through to and from the JR Nanao Line, Ainokaze Toyama Railway and Hapi-Line Fukui: no need to change at Tsubata, Kurikara or Daishōji. At Kanazawa the Hokutetsu Asanogawa Line is a separate station (Hokutetsu-Kanazawa); leave the gates to change.
Limited expresses between Kanazawa and Tsubata need a limited-express ticket (adult ¥200, child ¥100). Seishun 18 tickets are generally not valid (except passing through Tsubata–Kurikara between JR lines).
Wheelchair assistance
