- Who can buy
- Holders of a foreign (non-Japanese) passport entering Japan with "Temporary Visitor" (短期滞在) status. Carry your passport.
- Format
- Paper pass; reserve seats separately for free.
- When it is sold
- Current version (free area extended to Koshinetsu, Chuo Line and Oito Line areas) valid from 14 March 2026.

Is it worth it?
Add the normal one-way fares of the rides you plan within 7 days (from the fare charts at stations or a route planner).
Express, seat and Green car charges are usually not included in a pass: leave them out of the fares too unless the pass covers them.
How to use it
- Buy online (JR-EAST Train Reservation or JR-WEST ONLINE TRAIN RESERVATION), at a JR East Travel Service Center / station in the area, or as an exchange order from an overseas agent.
- Collect the pass with your passport, then ride the Hokuriku Shinkansen between Tokyo and Tsuruga, limited expresses (e.g. Haruka, Thunderbird) and local trains in the free area.
- Reserve seats before boarding all-reserved trains. Carry your passport.
