Step-free accessStation list →PThe station facilities table shows, per station, whether there is a slope or elevator from gate to platform, a portable ramp between platform and train, and an accessible toilet. Fukui, Shin-Fukui and Fukuiguchi have elevators; Katsuyama, Awara-Yunomachi, Mikuni and Mikuni-Minato have both a slope and a ramp; at many small stations neither is listed.
ICOCA and other transport IC cards can be used. Touch the entry reader when you board and the exit reader when you get off (readers at staffed stations; at unstaffed stations on the train). Discount fares do not apply with IC cards. If the balance is short, pay in cash or top up first; the fare box on the train can top up ¥1,000 only. Echizen Railway sells unregistered ICOCA (¥2,000 incl. ¥500 deposit, no credit cards) at staffed windows. Changing to Fukui Railway at Tawaramachi: touch the yellow exit reader on the platform you arrive at, then the blue entry reader on the platform you leave from. P

Getting on
Buy a ticket at the window (cash; credit cards only for commuter passes; nanaco/QUICPay at some windows) or at the ticket machine (cash, credit card or QR payments such as Alipay, WeChat Pay, PayPay; machines at Fukui, Fukuiguchi, Eiheijiguchi, Katsuyama, Fukudaimae-Nishifukui, Awara-Yunomachi, Mikuni). Or touch your IC card on the entry reader.
Getting off
If you boarded without a ticket, show your numbered ticket at the window and pay the fare. IC card users touch the exit reader.
Getting on
At unstaffed stations (and staffed stations outside window hours) board by the very front door of the first car; the other doors normally stay closed. Always take a numbered ticket (整理券).
IC card users touch the reader when boarding.
If a train attendant is on board, you can buy a ticket or a one-day pass from them (cash only): show your numbered ticket and say where you are going.
Getting off
Show your numbered ticket to the driver and pay the fare in cash (the fare is shown on the board in the train). IC card users touch the reader before getting off; if you forgot to touch when boarding, tell the driver or crew before touching.
