IC cards and payment in detail

Keihan accepts ICOCA, PiTaPa and the other nationwide transport IC cards (Kitaca, manaca, TOICA, PASMO, Suica, Hayakaken, nimoca, SUGOCA): touch the card at the ticket gate. Keihan's ICOCA and PiTaPa pages describe card discounts on the Keihan Line and the Iwashimizu-hachimangu Sando cable car (鋼索線), and a PiTaPa discount on the Ōtsu Line, so the cards are used on all three. Contactless credit/debit card touch payment cannot be used to pay fares, and ordinary single tickets cannot be bought by credit card. P

Getting on

  1. With an IC card (ICOCA, PiTaPa, Suica etc.), a commuter pass or another valid ticket, use it at the ticket gate and board.
  2. At stations with ticket machines, buy a ticket before boarding. Ordinary tickets cannot be bought with a credit card, and contactless credit cards cannot be used to pay the fare.
  3. At stations or gates without ticket machines (Keihan Line, e.g. Hashimoto, Sumizome, Toba-kaidō, Murano, Kisaichi, Kangetsukyō, Momoyama-minamiguchi, Rokujizō, Kohata, Ōbaku, and some gates at Temmabashi, Takii, Gotenyama, Chūshojima and Hoshigaoka): take a boarding certificate (乗車駅証明書) from the IC charge machine or certificate machine, put it through the gate, and pay the fare at your destination.
  4. Digital (QR) tickets bought on a smartphone: use the special ticket gates that accept digital tickets.
  5. Liner trains (weekday rush hours and evenings) are all reserved seats: you need a Liner ticket (¥300 or ¥380 depending on the section) as well as your fare ticket. The Premium Car (car 6) needs a Premium Car ticket instead (¥400 or ¥500 on Liner trains).
  6. Buy Liner and Premium Car tickets on the web (Premium Car Club, credit card), at station seat-ticket windows (cash only), or at the cashless seat-ticket machines on the platforms of limited-express stops (no cash: credit card, IC card, e-money or QR payment).
  7. Ōtsu Line (Keishin Line and Ishiyama-Sakamoto Line) trains are one-man operated, as are Katano Line and Uji Line trains. Many Ōtsu Line stations have staff only at certain hours or not at all (see the Ōtsu Line staffing hours). The pages checked do not describe a different boarding or payment procedure for these lines: check on site.

Getting off

  1. Go out through the ticket gate with your IC card or ticket. PiTaPa holders simply touch through the gate; no need to queue at a ticket machine or fare adjustment machine.
  2. If you boarded with a boarding certificate (乗車駅証明書), pay the fare at the fare adjustment machine (のりこし精算機) at your destination station.
  3. Disability-discount fares, hand-luggage tickets and similar: bring the boarding certificate to the staff at the destination, or call staff on the intercom of the fare adjustment machine.
  4. Liner trains: towards Yodoyabashi you can only board (not get off) between Demachiyanagi and Shichijō; towards Demachiyanagi you can only board between Yodoyabashi and Kyōbashi.
Wheelchair assistance

Keihan Railway Customer Center (京阪電車お客さまセンター), weekdays 9:00–19:00, Saturdays/holidays 9:00–17:00, closed 30 Dec–3 Jan. Keihan says requests for assistance are taken by a support center, which sends staff from the station in charge of your station; the support center's own number and how to book were not confirmed on the pages checked, so ask the Customer Center. On the Keihan Line, unstaffed stations can be answered remotely by staff (他駅サポートシステム). Tel. 06-6945-4560
