Step-free accessAll stations · Station list →PAll 134 Metro and New Tram stations have a step-free route from street to platform, including transfer routes, and every station has a wheelchair-accessible toilet. For boarding help, ask station staff on the day: every station has a folding ramp.
Touch an IC card on the gate reader on the Osaka Metro subway and New Tram. Osaka Metro says PiTaPa, ICOCA and the cards of the nationwide interoperable IC service work at its gates; mobile ICOCA / Apple Pay ICOCA work too. The full card list (Kitaca, PASMO, Suica, manaca, TOICA, Hayakaken, nimoca, SUGOCA) comes from the PiTaPa issuer's page for the PiTaPa area, not from Osaka Metro itself. Cards other than PiTaPa must be charged in advance and need at least ¥10 on the card to ride the subway; if the balance is short when you leave, charge it at a fare adjustment machine (mobile Suica/PASMO/ICOCA: yellow machines only). One card per person; IC cards cannot be combined with paper tickets. On trips through to other companies' lines without leaving the gates, IC cards may not be usable on some routes. Contactless credit/debit/prepaid cards and phones/watches (Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, UnionPay) also work at all Osaka Metro stations: see cemv. P
Buy a ticket at the ticket machine (券売機), or use an IC card (PiTaPa, ICOCA, Suica etc.), or a contactless credit/debit card or phone. Charge a non-PiTaPa IC card first: it needs at least ¥10 on it.
Always pass through the automatic ticket gate (自動改札機). IC card: hold it flat on the gate reader for about one second. Magnetic ticket or Enjoy Eco Card: insert it into the gate's ticket slot. Contactless card or phone: touch it on the dedicated reader fitted to the gate (no registration needed).
If the gate closes, or you have a paper ticket, or find the gates hard to use because of a disability, ask the station staff.
Getting off
Leave through the automatic ticket gate, touching the same IC card you entered with (or inserting your ticket).
If your IC card balance is too low, charge it at a fare adjustment machine (精算機) before using the gate.
Contactless credit/debit card or phone: you are charged the ordinary adult fare, even for children.

Big stationsOsaka / Umeda: lines, transfers, lockers and step-free routes JR calls its station Osaka (大阪); Hankyu, Hanshin and Osaka Metro call theirs Umeda (梅田, 大阪梅田, 東梅田, 西梅田). They are separate stations joined by streets and underground passages, so you leave one operator's gates and walk to the next.
On boardManners on trains and platforms Put your phone on silent and don't make calls in the car. Give priority seats to those who need them. Line up on the platform, move inside the car, wear your backpack in front and keep big bags out of the way. Some lines have women-only cars, mostly in the weekday morning rush.
Safety and lost propertyLost something on a train? Ask station staff straight away, or contact the railway's lost-property service: most big operators use the "find chat" online form (open 24 hours) plus a phone line. Say when and where you lost it, which train or stations, and describe the item in detail. Items move after a few days to a central office and, in Tokyo, then to the Metropolitan Police Lost and Found Center. Bring photo ID such as your passport to collect it.
