IC cards and payment in detail

No IC card use is mentioned anywhere; Ōigawa Railway's own pages describe paying in cash. Main Line one-man trains: take a numbered ticket when you board; at an unstaffed station put the fare and the ticket in the fare box, at a staffed station pay the fare in cash at the window. Ikawa Line (Apt Line) rides bought at a station window or on board are cash only (credit cards only at the Senzu window). Credit cards work only at Kanaya, Shin-Kanaya, Ieyama and Senzu stations (while staffed) and at Plaza Loco. There are no ATMs at or near the stations: bring cash. P

Getting on

  1. Ōigawa Main Line: buy a ticket at the window (traditional card tickets, clipped by staff at the gate). At Kanaya the ticket machine works from the first to the last train; the window has shorter hours.
  2. Credit cards are accepted only at Kanaya, Shin-Kanaya, Ieyama and Senzu stations (during window hours) and at Plaza Loco.
  3. SL and EL express trains (incl. Thomas/Percy) need an express surcharge on top of the fare: adult ¥1,500, child ¥750, whatever the distance. Book SL/EL seats in advance (individuals 30 to 2 days before).
  4. Main Line service runs only Kanaya–Kawane-Onsen-Sasamado: the section to Senzu has been closed since the 2022 typhoon. For Senzu, change at Ieyama to the Kawanehon town bus (connections not guaranteed).
  5. Ikawa Line (Minami Alps Abt Line, Senzu–Ikawa): seats are reserved in advance on the booking site (from 90 days before). The one-way plan costs adult ¥3,500 / child ¥1,750 regardless of section; on the day, staffed station windows or the train sell it if seats are left.

Getting off

  1. Hand your ticket to the staff. If you boarded at an unstaffed station, give your numbered ticket at the window and pay the fare in cash.

Getting on

  1. On a one-man train, take a numbered ticket (整理券) from the machine near the train door when you board.

Getting off

  1. Show your numbered ticket to the driver and pay the fare.
