IC cards and payment in detail

ICOCA, PiTaPa and the other nationwide transport IC cards (Kitaca, PASMO, Suica, manaca, TOICA, Hayakaken, nimoca, SUGOCA) work on all Kintetsu train lines except the Ikoma Cable (生駒ケーブル) and the Katsuragi-san Ropeway (葛城山ロープウェイ); Kintetsu notes that a few cards of those types still cannot be used. Touch the card on the gate reader for at least one second when you enter and when you leave. You cannot combine two IC cards (e.g. ICOCA + PiTaPa) on one trip, including at the transfer gates at Tsuruhashi and Kintetsu-Nagoya. If you entered with an IC card you cannot change to another railway company without leaving the gates at Kintetsu-Tomida, Tsu, Matsusaka and Ise-shi. At Kashiwara and Yoshinoguchi, if you use one IC card for both JR West and Kintetsu, you must touch the simple card reader on the platform (at Yoshinoguchi, on the platform or in the underpass). If the balance is too low at the exit, top up at a fare adjustment machine first. ICOCA cards are sold from Kintetsu's commuter-pass machines. Contactless credit/debit cards: see cemv. P

近鉄電車全線(生駒ケーブル・葛城山ロープウェイを除く)

Getting on

  1. Applies at stations with ticket machines and gates: buy a ticket to your destination before boarding, or use an IC card (ICOCA, PiTaPa, Suica etc.) or a contactless credit/debit card or phone.
  2. IC card: touch it on the reader of the automatic ticket gate for at least one second. Contactless card or phone: touch it for at least one second on a gate or small terminal that supports touch payment (タッチ決済).
  3. Limited express trains: all seats are reserved. Buy a limited express ticket (特急券) before boarding, in addition to your fare ticket or IC card. Deluxe seats, Hinotori, and the sightseeing limited expresses Shimakaze, Aoniyoshi and Blue Symphony (青の交響曲) also need a special car ticket.
  4. If you cannot use the automatic gates (for example in a wheelchair), go to the station staff.

Getting off

  1. Leave through the automatic ticket gate. IC card or contactless card/phone: touch the same card or device you entered with.
  2. If you rode further than your ticket covers, pay the difference at the fare adjustment machine (自動精算機), then put the adjustment ticket into the gate.
  3. IC card with too little balance: top up at the fare adjustment machine, then touch the gate again.
  4. Contactless cards are charged the adult fare only and cannot be used to pay an extra fare on another ticket.

Getting on

  1. Applies at stations with no ticket machine: board the train and tell the conductor (車掌) on board; buy an ordinary ticket from the conductor.
  2. At stations without automatic gates or fare adjustment machines, ask station staff if you need help with your ticket.

Getting off

  1. At stations without automatic gates: if you paid an extra fare at a fare adjustment machine, hand the adjustment ticket to the staff or put it into the collection box (回収箱).
  2. At stations without automatic gates or fare adjustment machines, ask station staff.
Wheelchair assistance

Kintetsu Train Telephone Center (近鉄電車テレフォンセンター), 8:00–21:00 every day; it answers questions on fares and on IC cards. A dedicated accessibility phone line was not found. At stations, staff guide wheelchair users from the ticket gate to the platform and operate wheelchair-capable escalators (ask the staff). Where no staff member is present, a QR code near the gate opens a video call or text chat for guidance. Station wheelchairs are for use inside the station only. Station-by-station barrier-free facilities are listed on Kintetsu's barrier-free pages. Tel. 050-3536-3957
