IC cards and payment in detail

Suica, PASMO and other transport IC cards cannot be used on the Ōarai Kashima Line: it is cash only, so buy a paper ticket. Coming from JR at Mito with an IC card: either leave the JR gates and buy an Ōarai Kashima Line ticket at the machine, or touch out at the Suica reader before platforms 7/8 at Mito (this settles the JR fare), ride, and pay the Kashima Rinkai fare at the station where you get off. On busy event days, buy your return ticket in advance. P

Getting on

  1. At Ōarai and Shin-Hokota, buy a ticket at the ticket office or a ticket machine, then go through the gate to the platform.

Getting on

  1. At unstaffed stations, take a numbered ticket (seiriken) when you board.

Getting off

  1. When you get off, put the fare shown for your numbered ticket into the fare box. Cash (Japanese yen) only; credit cards are not accepted.
