IC cards and payment in detail

Transport IC cards (ICOCA, Suica etc.) cannot be used to ride the Chizu Line (Kamigori – Chizu). Buy a paper ticket: at the staffed stations Kamigori, Ōhara and Chizu (Sayo is run by JR West) IC cards and credit cards are accepted only to pay for tickets and goods. IC cards are not sold or topped up there. Japan Rail Pass and Seishun 18 tickets are not valid on the Chizu Line; the JR-WEST passes Kansai Wide, Sanyo-San'in, All Area and Sanyo-San'in-Northern Kyushu do include it. P

Getting on

  1. At the staffed stations (Kamigori, Ōhara, Chizu, and Sayo run by JR West) buy your ticket before boarding.

Getting off

  1. With a mobile ticket (QUICKRIDE or Jorudan), show the ticket screen to the station staff when you get off.

Getting on

  1. Local trains: board by the rear door.
  2. Take a numbered ticket (seiriken), even if you already have a ticket.

Getting off

  1. Get off by the front door.
  2. Put the fare (or your ticket) and the numbered ticket into the fare box next to the driver's seat.
  3. On local trains only ¥1,000 notes can be changed: have coins ready.
  4. With a mobile ticket (QUICKRIDE or Jorudan), show the ticket screen to the crew. If your phone cannot show it (flat battery etc.), you pay the fare for the trip.
Wheelchair assistance

All trains on the Chizu Line have steps between the platform and the cabin, so handle-type electric wheelchairs cannot be used. Other wheelchair users: call the Chizu Express transport department (0858-75-2595), if possible by the day before, and staff will help from the gate to the train. The limited expresses Super Hakuto and Super Inaba have wheelchair spaces and are all-reserved. Tel. 0858-75-2595
