Crossing into another areaYou cannot ride on an IC card between the Sapporo–Asahikawa and Hakodate Kitaca areas, or from a Kitaca area to a station outside it (no fare adjustment for the part outside the area): buy a paper ticket for the whole trip.
Other JR Hokkaido areas (a journey cannot cross into them on an IC card): Kitaca area: Sapporo–Asahikawa.
Good to know
- JR Hokkaido takes Suica and the other nationwide IC cards in its Kitaca areas, but not Sapporo's SAPICA card.
- An IC card trip is valid for one day from entry to exit, whatever the distance.
- Limited expresses and u-seat reserved seats inside the area are fine on the card if you buy the limited express or seat ticket separately first.
- At unstaffed stations served by one-man trains, show your card to the driver when you get off, then tap it on the station reader to exit.
- The IC card balance cannot pay for fare adjustment on board the train.
