Booking recommended. Individual bookings open at 8:30 one month before the sailing date (reservation centre 099-226-4141, or online via Smart Ferry, WILLER TRAVEL or skyticket for 2nd class and cars). In busy periods (Golden Week, summer, New Year) booked passengers can fill the ship. Cars and motorbikes must be booked. Everyone fills in a boarding form and must finish check-in 1 hour before departure.

- Arriving in Kagoshima at 8:30: the last city bus from Kagoshima Shinkō leaves around 9:00, so get off quickly.
- Bicycles and motorbikes from Kagoshima must be checked in 15:30–16:00 (to Okinawa) or 16:00–16:30 (to the Amami Islands).
