IC cards and payment in detail

Nationwide transport IC cards (全国交通系ICカード, e.g. ICOCA) work since 28 September 2024; Mobile ICOCA too. No other IC cards. Cards are not sold on board. If the balance is too low, pay the whole fare in cash: IC and cash cannot be combined. P

How to ride from here P

Getting on

At a stop with no safety island in the road, wait at the waiting area on the pavement until the tram arrives, then check both ways for cars before crossing to it.
Board at the rear door. The rule is the same on every type of tram.
Cash: take a numbered ticket (整理券 seiriken) at the boarding door and keep it: you need it to get off. Without one you pay the fare from the first stop.
IC card: touch the IC boarding reader at the boarding door firmly.

Getting off

Get off at the front door. The fare is paid when you get off.
Cash: put the 整理券 and the fare together into the fare box at the exit. No change is given: use the change machine in the car first. Paper tickets (e.g. commemorative tickets) also go here.
IC card: touch the IC exit reader firmly. If the balance is too low, pay the whole fare in cash.
