IC cards and payment in detail

IC cards work on the city tram: the local ecomyca and passca cards (adult ¥220) and, since October 2021, nationwide transport IC cards such as ICOCA (adult ¥240, the same as cash). On the tram you touch your card only when you get off. Note: the operator says Suica, ICOCA, PASMO etc. cannot be used on its railway lines and buses, only on the city tram. P

How to ride P

Getting on

Wait at the tram stop. Before boarding, check the route number and destination shown at the front of the tram: some stops are served by trams to different destinations.
Board through the entrance-only door (in the middle or rear of the car). There are no numbered tickets: just take a seat.
IC card users: on the city tram you touch your card only when getting off, not when boarding.

Getting off

When your stop is announced, press a nearby stop button (降車ボタン). Stand up only after the tram has fully stopped.
Cash: put the fare (flat fare, adult ¥240, child ¥120) into the fare slot at the front of the car. No change is given: if you need change, use the machines at the front and back of the car while the tram is stopped (¥1,000 notes and coins only; ¥5,000 and ¥10,000 notes cannot be changed).
IC card (ecomyca, passca or a nationwide IC card): touch it on the reader when you get off.
Free-pass holders: show the date on your ticket to the driver.
After paying, get off through the exit-only door next to the fare box (the front door). Watch the traffic lights and cars when you step off.
