Not stated whether you can ride by touching a transport IC card. Since November 2024 the ticket machines at Ueda, Shimonogō and Bessho-Onsen accept credit cards and IC cards (transport IC, nanaco, WAON etc.) as payment for tickets. Ueda Electric Railway also sells QR-code ride sets and commuter passes in the TicketQR app. P

Getting on

  1. At Ueda Station buy your ticket at the ticket window (open within business hours) or the ticket machine. Fares run from adult ¥180 to ¥590 (Ueda – Bessho-Onsen); children pay half, rounded up to ¥10.
  2. Ticket machines print a QR code on the ticket: scan it at the QR reader at the station or on the train. The machines at Ueda, Shimonogō and Bessho-Onsen also take credit cards and IC cards (transport IC, nanaco, WAON) as payment.

Getting on

  1. Ticket machines are installed at Ueda, Akasaka-ue, Uedahara, Daigakumae, Shimonogō and Bessho-Onsen.
  2. Where there is no ticket machine, take a numbered ticket (seiriken, with a barcode) when you board.
Wheelchair assistance

Ueda Station (Ueda Electric Railway), daily 8:00–20:00, for timetables, fares, lost property and group bookings; other enquiries: Transport Department 0268-39-7117 (weekdays 9:00–17:00). Wheelchairs: trains carry a ramp; at stations reachable by wheelchair, wait at the boarding point and the driver will help. For stations with stairs to the platform, call Ueda Station in advance.
