IC cards and payment in detail

Alpine Route rides use paper tickets bought at the station ticket counters (or WEB Kippu / travel-agency vouchers exchanged for tickets). Electronic money and QR-code payments are not accepted at the ticket counters. Credit cards are accepted at the counters of Dentetsu-Toyama, Tateyama, Bijodaira, Midagahara, Murodō, Daikanbō, Kurobedaira, Kurobeko, Kurobe Dam and Ōgizawa. P

Getting on

  1. Buy a same-day ticket at the Alpine Route station ticket counter (cash or credit card) on the day you travel; there is no advance sale of same-day tickets. Tickets are valid for 5 days. Sales start 20–40 minutes before the first departure depending on the station; on peak days sales may be limited.
  2. From Tateyama (Tateyama Cable Car) and Ōgizawa (Kanden Tunnel Electric Bus) board at the time printed on your ticket; times are assigned on the day only. To reserve a time in advance, use WEB Kippu (membership, credit card only) and collect the ticket from the machine before your departure time.
  3. At other stations queue at the ticket gate of each vehicle. Dentetsu-Toyama Station also sells Alpine Route tickets together with Toyama Chitetsu tickets.
  4. The last bus from Murodō towards Toyama leaves at 16:20 (notice on 8 Oct 2026); allow 6–8 hours to cross the route.
Wheelchair assistance

Not all stations and vehicles are barrier-free; wheelchair users need a companion or staff help, and heavy or large wheelchairs may have to be swapped for folding ones. The Tateyama Highland Bus (Bijodaira – Murodō) cannot carry passengers seated in wheelchairs. Accessible toilets at Tateyama, Bijodaira, Murodō, Daikanbō, Kurobedaira, Kurobeko and Ōgizawa.
