IC cards and payment in detail

PASMO, Suica and the other nationwide transport IC cards (Kitaca, TOICA, manaca, ICOCA, PiTaPa, Hayakaken, nimoca, SUGOCA) can be used at every station on the Sotetsu Main, Izumino and Shin-Yokohama lines. This comes from the PASMO operator list; PASMO notes that a few lines in its area do not take every card, and Sotetsu's own pages checked do not list the mutual-use cards. Only one IC card at a time: do not touch PASMO and Suica together in one card case. Contactless credit/debit/prepaid cards and phones (Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, UnionPay) can be used on all Sotetsu lines since March 2026, adult fare only, but how depends on the station: a reader on the automatic gate at some stations, a reader at the staffed window at others, and at the rest you tell the staff at the window. A few gates do not take them at all. P

PASMOは、以下の鉄道事業者の全駅(伊豆箱根鉄道駿豆線を除く)でご利用いただけます。

Getting on

  1. Buy a ticket at the ticket machine (券売機), or use an IC card such as PASMO or Suica, or a contactless credit/debit/prepaid card or phone.
  2. IC card: touch it on the reader of the automatic ticket gate (自動改札機). Use one IC card at a time.
  3. Contactless card or phone, gate reader stations (Yokohama 1st floor except the Goban-gai gate, Nishi-Yokohama, Hoshikawa, Tsurugamine, Futamata-gawa, Kibōgaoka, Mitsukyō, Seya, Sagami-Ōtsuka, Ebina central gates, Shōnandai, Shin-Yokohama): touch it on the touch-payment reader of a gate that supports it.
  4. Contactless card or phone, window reader stations (Yokohama, Futamata-gawa, Yamato north gate and transfer gate, Sagamino, Ryokuentoshi, Hazawa Yokohama-Kokudai): touch it on the entry reader at the staffed gate window.
  5. Contactless card or phone, other stations (Hiranumabashi, Tennōchō east, Wadamachi, Kami-Hoshikawa, Nishiya, Kashiwadai west, Minami-Makigahara, Yayoidai, Izumino, Izumi-Chūō, Yumegaoka): tell the staff at the gate window that you are paying by touch.
  6. Contactless cards do not work at Yokohama (Goban-gai gate), Tennōchō (YBP gate), Kashiwadai (east gate), Ebina (north gate) or Yumegaoka (Solatos gate). The station lists may change as gate works progress.

Getting off

  1. Leave through the gate, touching the same IC card you entered with. With a commuter pass on PASMO, the extra fare beyond the pass section is taken from the card balance at the gate.
  2. Contactless credit/debit card or phone: exit with the same card or device you entered with (a gate reader, the window reader or the staff, as at entry). You pay the adult fare (no child fares), and it cannot be combined with IC cards, tickets or passes.
  3. Yamato transfer gate (Sotetsu ⇔ Odakyu): touch the transfer reader for the direction you are going (navy: Sotetsu to Odakyu, light blue: Odakyu to Sotetsu); a wrong or missed touch gives a wrong fare.
  4. A contactless card covers through trips onto Toei, Tokyo Metro, Keikyu, Keio, Tokyu, Odakyu, Seibu, Tobu and Minatomirai lines (some stations excluded). It cannot be used for trips onto JR East (including the Sotetsu–JR through line) or the Saitama Stadium line: use an IC card for those, or exit at the connecting station and re-enter.
