IC cards and payment in detail
The local Hareca card, PiTaPa, ICOCA and the other nationwide transport IC cards work on the trams. Touch the reader at the boarding door when you get on and the reader on the fare box when you get off. Nationwide cards (PiTaPa, ICOCA etc.) cannot be charged on board: if the balance is short, pay the fare in cash. Hareca is also valid on most local buses in Okayama Prefecture (deposit ¥500). Whether contactless credit/debit cards are accepted was not confirmed. P
Board through the rear door (rear on, front off). At the first stop of a trip (Okayama-Ekimae, Higashiyama, Seikibashi) you may board through any door.
Cash: just board; there are no numbered tickets (整理券).
IC card: touch the IC card reader at the boarding door.
Getting off
Get off through the front door and pay when you get off.
Cash: put the fare into the fare box (the operator's how-to page gives adult ¥160, child ¥80). No change is given: use the change machine on the fare box first.
IC card: touch the reader on the fare box. If the balance is too low, pay in cash or (Hareca only) charge it; nationwide cards cannot be charged on board.
