IC cards cannot be used on the Hakone Tozan Cable Car (Gora–Sounzan), although they work on the Hakone Tozan Train up to Gora. Buy a ticket, or use a pass such as the Hakone Freepass. Contactless credit-card touch is not mentioned. P

Getting on

  1. IC cards do not work on the cable car: buy a ticket or use a pass that covers it.
  2. If you need help at a time when the station is unstaffed (for example with a wheelchair), use the intercom by the ticket gate and wait for staff from the managing station.
Wheelchair assistance

Tell the station the date and time in advance if you need help at unstaffed times. Sounzan Station 0460-82-2117, Gora Station 0460-82-2049 (7:00–21:00), Railway Department 0465-32-6823 (weekdays 9:00–17:00). Wheelchairs can be borrowed at Hakone-Yumoto, Gora and Sounzan. Tel. 0460-82-2117

IC cards can be used on the Hakone Tozan Train (Odawara–Gora), but not on the Hakone Tozan Cable Car beyond Gora. The operator's FAQ only says 'IC cards' without naming them. Tickets and the Hakone Freepass can be bought by credit card at the Hakone-Yumoto and Gora windows. Contactless credit-card touch at the gates is not mentioned. P

Getting on

  1. Buy a ticket, or use an IC card. Credit cards are accepted for tickets and the Hakone Freepass at the Hakone-Yumoto and Gora windows.
  2. Some stations have no staff early in the morning and at night. If you need help (for example with a wheelchair), use the intercom by the ticket gate; staff come from the managing station, which can take a while.
