IC cards and payment in detail

Only Hokutetsu's own ICa card works on the trains. Nationwide IC cards such as Suica and ICOCA cannot be used (on Hokutetsu they work only on the Kanazawa Loop Bus). Instead you can touch a contactless credit or debit card (see cemv) or use a QR ticket. One ICa pays for one person only, and an ICa cannot be combined with ride-set tickets on the railway. P

Getting on

  1. At unstaffed stations board by the front or rear door of the first car (the second car's doors do not open).
  2. Take a numbered ticket (整理券). If you pay with ICa, a contactless credit/debit card (Visa, Mastercard, JCB, AMEX, Diners, Discover, UnionPay; no registration needed) or a QR ticket, touch the entry reader on the platform before boarding.

Getting off

  1. At unstaffed stations get off by the very front door of the first car.
  2. Put your numbered ticket and the fare (or your ticket) into the fare box. ICa, contactless card or QR-ticket users touch the exit reader on the fare box; show paper free passes to the crew.
  3. Paying for several people, a child or a disability fare with a contactless card: tell the crew or station staff before you touch. Contactless cards cannot be combined with cash or ICa; if the card gives an error, pay in cash.
