IC cards and payment in detail

On all Hiroden trams (city lines and the Miyajima Line) you can pay with Hiroden's own MOBIRY DAYS (dedicated IC card, ¥500, or QR code in the app), the nationwide transport IC cards Kitaca, PASMO, Suica, manaca, TOICA, ICOCA, Hayakaken, nimoca and SUGOCA, or WAON, including phones set up with these. PiTaPa is not accepted. Since 1 July 2026 you touch the MOBIRY DAYS reader twice: when you board and when you get off. ICOCA commuter passes cannot be used (the stored balance can), cards cannot be topped up on board or at Hiroden's ticket windows, and child or discount fares are not applied automatically (not even on child ICOCA): tell the crew before you touch to get off. If the balance is too low, pay the whole fare another way (no split payment). Discounts such as MOBIRY DAYS's fixed-rate discount and the cheaper MOBIRY DAYS fares on the Miyajima Line apply only with MOBIRY DAYS, not with other IC cards or WAON. Hiroden's own PASPY card ended on 29 March 2025. The operator's payment pages do not mention contactless credit cards on the trams (touch payment is announced only for the airport limousine bus), so do not count on them. P

Getting on

  1. Check the route number and destination on the sign at the front of the tram.
  2. Board through any door, however you pay. Single cars and the 1000 type have two doors; articulated trams have four.
  3. Paying cash or using a one-day ticket: just board (no numbered ticket).
  4. Using MOBIRY DAYS (card or QR code), a nationwide IC card (not PiTaPa) or WAON: touch the reader as you board. The reader has separate parts for IC cards and QR codes, so hold your card or code over the right one.

Getting off

  1. Pay when you get off. The fare is flat on the whole network, city lines and Miyajima Line alike: adult ¥240, child ¥120 (MOBIRY DAYS users pay less within the Miyajima Line).
  2. Cash: get off by the door where a crew member is (on four-door articulated trams also by the rearmost door on the left in the direction of travel). Put the exact fare into the fare box by the door; if you need change, use the change machine attached to the fare box. It does not take the new ¥500 coin: ask the crew.
  3. One-day ticket: get off by the door where a crew member is and show the date on your ticket. With a MOBIRY TRAVEL digital ticket, show the screen with the moving tram; screenshots are not accepted.
  4. MOBIRY DAYS, nationwide IC card or WAON, one adult: get off by any door and touch the reader, holding the card until it says ありがとうございました (payment finished).
  5. Child fare, discount fare or paying for several people with one card: go to the door where a crew member is and tell them before you touch. If you forgot to touch when boarding, tell the crew.
Wheelchair assistance

Ultra-low-floor trams (5000 Green Mover, 5100 Green Mover Max, 1000 Green Mover LEX, 5200 Green Mover APEX) have a wheelchair and stroller space near the conductor's position; older trams have an extra step at the doors. Several stops have been rebuilt with wider ramps and platforms raised to the low-floor car's floor height (e.g. Hiroshima Station, Kamiya-chō-nishi, Genbaku Dome-mae, Hiroden-nishi-hiroshima, Hiroshima Port). For questions call the Hiroden Call Center (navi-dial 0570-550700, 6:30–21:00 every day; calls with a withheld number are refused). Tel. 0570-550700
