IC cards and payment in detail
Hankyu accepts PiTaPa, ICOCA (including Mobile ICOCA), Kitaca, manaca, TOICA, PASMO (including Mobile PASMO), Suica (including Mobile Suica), Hayakaken, nimoca and SUGOCA. PiTaPa is post-paid (billed later) within the PiTaPa and JR West post-pay areas. Touch the card firmly on the gate reader: a weak touch can lead to a fare for a different route or the card not working next time. The card can stay in a pass case, but not together with other IC cards or coins. Paper tickets cannot be bought with an IC card or credit card (cash only). IC cards (other than IC commuter passes) cannot be used for alternative transport (振替輸送) when trains are stopped. Since 18 March 2026 you can enter and leave the same station within 20 minutes with an IC card at no charge (all 87 stations). P
All Hankyu stations: you pass an automatic ticket gate before boarding.
Paper ticket: buy it at the station with cash only (credit cards and IC cards cannot be used to buy tickets).
IC card (PiTaPa, ICOCA, Suica, PASMO and the other nationwide cards): touch it firmly on the gate's card reader. It can stay in a pass case, but not together with other IC cards or coins.
Contactless credit/debit/prepaid card or phone (Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, UnionPay): touch it on the dedicated reader fitted to the gate. Every entrance has at least one gate with this reader. Adult fare only (no child fares or discounts).
Digital pass (QR ticket): use a gate with a QR code reader.
If the gate does not let you through, ask station staff or use the staff-call intercom.
Getting off
Leave through the automatic ticket gate, touching the same IC card or contactless card you entered with; the fare for your trip is deducted (contactless cards are charged through the card).
Contactless card trips continuing onto another company's line: only possible if your exit station also takes contactless card payments.
Changed your mind at the same station: touch out at the same station within 20 minutes of entering and no fare is charged (IC cards and contactless cards). After 20 minutes the gate will not open: see station staff and pay the platform ticket charge.
If the gate does not let you out, ask station staff or use the staff-call intercom.

Big stationsOsaka / Umeda: lines, transfers, lockers and step-free routes JR calls its station Osaka (大阪); Hankyu, Hanshin and Osaka Metro call theirs Umeda (梅田, 大阪梅田, 東梅田, 西梅田). They are separate stations joined by streets and underground passages, so you leave one operator's gates and walk to the next.
