IC cards and payment in detail
ICOCA and other transport IC cards, including mobile versions, can be used on Fukui Railway trains. Touch the blue reader when boarding (at the station if it has one, otherwise at the train's entrance door) and the yellow reader when getting off (at the station where staff are present, otherwise on the fare box at the front). Changing trains at Fukui-Jōshi-Daimyōmachi: do not touch, tell the driver. IC cards cannot pay discount fares, cannot be combined with other tickets, and their balance cannot be used to buy tickets. Top up with cash at ICOCA windows, some station machines, or the fare box reader on the train (¥1,000 notes only). ICOCA is sold at Takefu-shin, Shinmei, Asōzu, Tawaramachi and the Machinaka information office (Fukui Station west exit). P

Getting on
Buy a ticket at the window or ticket machine (machines take cash, credit cards and QR payments such as Alipay, WeChat Pay, PayPay; not IC cards; Asōzu machine cash only). Show the ticket to staff when they check tickets before departure.
IC card users touch the blue reader at the station. Where staff are present you may board by any open door. When no staff are on duty, follow the unstaffed-station steps.
Getting off
Get off by any open door; staff collect or check your fare, numbered ticket or ticket. IC card users touch the yellow reader at the station.
Getting on
If the station has a ticket machine, buy a ticket first.
Board by the middle door (entrance). Without a ticket, take a numbered ticket (整理券) from the machine at the door.
IC card users touch the blue reader at the station, or the blue reader at the train's entrance door if the station has none.
Getting off
Get off by the very front door. Check the fare on the fare display in the train.
Put the fare, numbered ticket or ticket into the fare box behind the driver's seat. Show commuter passes and free passes clearly to the driver. IC card users touch the yellow reader on the fare box.
Need change? Use the changer on the fare box (up to ¥1,000 notes); larger notes may not be accepted, so have coins ready.
Wheelchair assistance
Wheelchair users: tell Takefu-shin Station (0778-22-0617, 8:00–21:00) at least 2 days before travel; some cars have a large step at the door, so staff prepare a ramp. The low-floor FUKURAM (F1000) and FUKURAM LINER (F2000) can be boarded without a ramp. Tel. 0778-22-0617
