IC cards and payment in detail

PASMO, Suica and the other nationwide transport IC cards can be used at every station on all nine Tokyu lines (Tōyoko, Meguro, Tōkyū Shin-Yokohama, Den-en-toshi, Ōimachi, Ikegami, Tōkyū Tamagawa, Setagaya and Kodomonokuni lines). On the Setagaya Line the flat fare is taken when you board, so you do not touch out. On the Kodomonokuni Line, Nagatsuta station has no ticket gate for that line: the fare is taken at Onda or Kodomonokuni station. Contactless credit/debit cards and phones (Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, UnionPay) work at every Tokyu station, including the Setagaya Line, at the adult fare only. P

PASMOは、以下の鉄道事業者の全駅(伊豆箱根鉄道駿豆線を除く)でご利用いただけます。

Getting on

  1. Buy a ticket at a silver ticket machine (券売機), or use an IC card such as PASMO or Suica, or a contactless credit/debit card or phone.
  2. Enter through the automatic ticket gate (自動改札機). IC card: touch it on the gate reader. Contactless card or phone: touch it on the touch-payment terminal of a gate that supports it.
  3. Setagaya Line (Sangen-jaya – Shimo-takaido, tram-like line): the flat fare (adult ¥160, child ¥80) is paid when you board. Where the station entrance has a gate, pay there; otherwise pay in the fare box inside the car. IC card or credit card: touch the IC checker at the gate or inside the car. Cash: coins and ¥1,000 notes only. In rush hours staff may collect fares on the platform.
  4. Setagaya Line: board by the door marked as the entrance (入口). Which doors are entrances depends on the station and the time of day.
  5. Kodomonokuni Line: Nagatsuta station has no ticket gate for this line, so board the train directly there; your fare is taken when you leave at Onda or Kodomonokuni. Boarding at Onda or Kodomonokuni, the fare is taken when you enter.

Getting off

  1. Leave through the automatic ticket gate, touching the same IC card you entered with.
  2. If your IC card balance is too low, add the missing amount at a fare adjustment machine (精算機) or a charge machine inside the gates. With a paper ticket for a shorter trip, pay the difference at the fare adjustment machine or the staffed window.
  3. Contactless credit/debit card or phone: you must touch the same card or device to exit. You pay the adult fare (no child fares, no transfer discounts). You can ride on with one touch onto Odakyu, Odakyu Hakone, Keikyu, Sotetsu, Seibu, Tokyo Metro, Toei, Tobu and Minatomirai lines (some of their stations excluded), but not beyond them: for other companies' lines use a ticket or an IC card.
  4. Setagaya Line: get off by the exit door (出口). No payment or card touch is needed when you get off.
  5. Kodomonokuni Line: arriving at Nagatsuta from Onda or Kodomonokuni, there is no gate for this line, so just walk out.
