Since 14 March 2026 Suica works at every station on both lines (Shinano Railway Line Karuizawa–Shinonoi and Kita-Shinano Line Nagano–Myōkō-Kōgen), as do the other nationwide IC cards (Kitaca, PASMO, TOICA, manaca, ICOCA, PiTaPa, SUGOCA, nimoca, Hayakaken), Mobile Suica and the Nagano-area KURURU card. Karuizawa and Ueda have Suica ticket gates; the other stations have stand-alone IC readers. IC fares are slightly cheaper than paper tickets (charged to the yen). The stations are part of JR East's Greater Tokyo Suica area: you cannot ride with Suica from Shinano Railway into another Suica area (e.g. Niigata) or onto the JR Koumi and Iiyama lines outside the area; buy a ticket for the whole trip instead. Top up with cash at the new ticket machines; Suica cards are sold at Karuizawa, Komoro, Ueda, Yashiro, Nagano (Shinano Railway ticket office) and Toyono. P
