Buy a ticket (single or one-day) at the ticket machine, or use an IC card (icsca, Suica or another interoperable card).
All subway gates are automatic. IC card: touch it on the reader. Single ticket or subway one-day ticket: put it in the slot. Do not touch two IC cards (or a card and an IC phone) together: the gate shows an error.
Tōzai Line only: a contactless credit/debit card or phone is touched on the reader at the staffed gate (有人改札), on the entry side, until the light turns from blue to green; the station staff then open the gate. Take the card out of your wallet first. No registration is needed.
Wheelchair users need no advance booking: if you need help, ask the station staff at the window before boarding.
Getting off
IC card: touch it on the gate reader; the remaining balance is shown. Paper ticket: put it in the slot; single tickets are kept, one-day tickets come back out, so take them.
If you rode too far or your IC balance is short, pay at the fare adjustment machine first (IC card: charge it or add only the shortfall), then go through the gate. Staff are in the office beside the gate.
Tōzai Line contactless card or phone: touch the reader on the exit side of the staffed gate with the same card or device you entered with. Only adult fares are charged (no child fare or welfare discount), one card covers one person, and you cannot transfer to the Namboku Line with it.
