IC cards and payment in detail

manaca (the Nagoya-area IC card) works at Meitetsu ticket gates on every line except two sections: the Gamagōri Line between Mikawa-Toba and Gamagōri, and the Hiromi Line between Akechi and Mitake. There is one exception: trips that cross into those sections from Kira-Yoshida or Shin-Kani can use manaca if you pay from the card's stored balance. Ask at a staffed station for details. Meitetsu says other companies' IC cards also work in the manaca area. The list of those cards (Kitaca, PASMO, Suica, TOICA, PiTaPa, ICOCA, Hayakaken, nimoca, SUGOCA) comes from the Nagoya City Transportation Bureau, another manaca operator, because Meitetsu shows its own list only as an image. Touch the card on the gate reader when you enter and when you leave. A manaca with a zero balance still lets you in: top it up before you leave. manaca cannot be used to pay on the train (for example the special-car surcharge), as a platform ticket, or at the fare-adjustment machines. At Yatomi Station (Bisai Line) the readers are simple stand-alone units: touch the entry (入場用) reader when you board and the exit (出場用) reader when you get off. Contactless credit cards work only at some stations: see cemv. P

全線(蒲郡線三河鳥羽~蒲郡間および広見線明智~御嵩間を除く)

Getting on

  1. At stations with automatic ticket gates: touch your manaca or other transport IC card on the gate reader and wait for the beep. Do not touch two IC cards at once, for example two cards in one pass case.
  2. Contactless credit/debit card or phone (Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, UnionPay): touch it on the dedicated reader at the gate. This works only at 16 stations: Chūbu Kokusai Kūkō (Centrair), Meitetsu Nagoya, Kanayama, Higashi-Okazaki, Jingū-mae, Kōnomiya, Meitetsu Ichinomiya, Shin-Kisogawa, Kasamatsu, Meitetsu Gifu, Inuyama, Kami-Otai, Kamiiida, Akaike, Chita-Handa and Nishio. Travelling to or from any other station, buy a ticket or use an IC card. You always pay the adult fare.
  3. CentX QR ticket bought in advance in the CentX app: tap "利用開始" (start use), then show the QR code at a compatible gate. Screenshots are not accepted.
  4. Special cars (every car of the μSKY airport train, and cars 1–2 of other trains that have special cars) need a μticket (ミューチケット, ¥450 at any age) as well as your fare ticket. Buy it in advance at a station with ticket staff, from a touch-panel ticket machine at stations where special cars stop, or online. If you pay on the train it costs ¥500, and you cannot pay with manaca.

Getting off

  1. IC card: touch the same card on the gate reader to leave. If the balance is short, top it up at a charge machine (チャージ機) or the fare-adjustment window, in ¥1,000 units, then touch again.
  2. Contactless credit/debit card or phone: touch the same card or device at the exit gate of one of the 16 participating stations. One card covers one person only.
  3. Paper ticket: put it in the automatic gate. If you travelled past the station on your ticket, pay the difference at the fare-adjustment machine (自動精算機) first. To pay that difference from a manaca balance, go to the fare-adjustment window instead (the machines do not take manaca).

Getting on

  1. At stations without staff that use the remote station-management system (駅集中管理システム): check the fare on the fare chart and buy a ticket from the ticket machine. IC cards are touched on the automatic gate as usual.
  2. If your destination is not on the fare chart, or the machine cannot sell the ticket you need, ask through the intercom (インターホン) next to the ticket machine. Commuter passes and other tickets the machines do not sell are only available at stations with ticket staff.
  3. Ticket with a black or brown back: put it in the automatic gate slot and remember to take it back.
  4. Ticket with a white back: call through the intercom by the ticket machine, place the ticket on the stand below the intercom so staff can check it by camera, then go through the gate with the flashing arrow.
  5. Intercoms are near the ticket machines, near the fare-adjustment machines and on platforms (not on every platform). Staff at a staffed station answer them.

Getting off

  1. IC card: touch it on the automatic gate reader to leave.
  2. Ticket with a black or brown back: put it in the automatic gate. If you owe extra fare, pay at the fare-adjustment machine (自動精算機) and put the adjustment ticket it gives you into the gate.
  3. Ticket with a white back: call through the intercom next to the fare-adjustment machine, place the ticket on the stand below it to be checked by camera, drop it in the ticket box (乗車券ポスト), then leave through the gate with the flashing arrow.
  4. No ticket, or paying a manaca excess fare for a paper ticket: tell staff through the intercom.
Wheelchair assistance

Help boarding and alighting at stations (駅での乗降お手伝い), 6:00–23:00. Call once your plans are fixed, or tell station staff. Without advance notice assistance may take longer, and some requests cannot be met depending on the station. Mobility-scooter-type electric wheelchairs (ハンドル形電動車いす) are accepted only between the listed stations, never in special cars. Users must tell staff by phone, at the station window or through the intercom near the ticket gates. Meitetsu's barrier-free page has equipment details for each station. Tel. 0570-55-0155
