How to ride Kurama-dera Temple (Kurama Cable) P
Operator-wide facts from Kurama-dera Temple (Kurama Cable)'s own pages; individual lines and stations can differ.
Getting on
- The cable car runs inside the Kurama-dera temple grounds from Sanmon station (Fumeiden, near the main gate) to Tahoto station in about 2 minutes. It is the only railway licensed under the Railway Business Act that is run by a religious corporation.
- Entering the mountain costs the temple's Aizan-hi contribution of ¥500. The cable car is not sold as a fare but as a donation: adult ¥200 one way, elementary-school age and under ¥100 one way.
- Typical hours: first car up 8:40, last car down 16:25 (check the temple's notice; the cable is suspended on some inspection days).
- Pets may enter the mountain but cannot ride the cable car. Fit visitors can instead walk up the Kuramadera zigzag path next to Sanmon station (about 30 minutes from the gate to the main hall).
