Hakata Station: lines, transfers, lockers and step-free routes

Layout and transfers

• The Hakata exit (博多口) is the Tenjin side of the station; the Chikushi exit (筑紫口) is the airport side. [1]
• To change between JR local trains and the Shinkansen without leaving the gates, use the Shinkansen North transfer gate (北のりかえ改札口) or the Shinkansen Central transfer gate (中央のりかえ改札口). [1]
• JR local lines use platforms 1–8 (Kagoshima Line to Kokura and Kurume, limited expresses to Nagasaki, Oita and Yufuin); the Shinkansen uses platforms 11–16. [2]
• The Fukuoka City Subway station Hakata serves trains towards Meinohama/Karatsu and Fukuoka Airport (Airport Line) and towards Tenjin-minami/Hashimoto (Nanakuma Line). [3]

Tickets, rail passes and seat reservations

• JR Kyushu has a single ticket office (Midori-no-madoguchi) at Hakata, near the Central gate. [1]
• It is open 07:00–22:00 every day; online bookings can be collected from ticket machines 04:45–23:20. [4]
• JR West (Sanyo Shinkansen) has its own ticket offices: at the Shinkansen Central gate 06:00–22:00, at the Central transfer counter 05:40–21:15 and at the Shinkansen North transfer counter 05:40–19:00. [5]
• Japan Rail Pass: exchange or collect it at the JR Kyushu ticket office, 07:00–22:00. [6]

Coin lockers and tourist information

• JR Kyushu has many coin lockers at Hakata (40 extra-small, 240 small, 229 medium, 135 large, 5 extra-large). [7]
• Locker prices at Hakata per day: 400, 500, 800, 1,000 and 1,200 yen by size; the day changes at midnight and each extra day costs more. [7]
• The subway station also has coin lockers. [3]
• Fukuoka City Tourist Information (Hakata Station General Information) is open 08:00–19:00; phone 092-431-3003. On the JR station plan it is in the central concourse (総合案内所). [8]

Step-free routes and toilets

• The Shinkansen platforms 11–16 have elevators and up/down escalators from the Shinkansen Central gate, which is level with the Chikushi exit. [2]
• JR local platforms 1–8 have elevators from the North gate. [2]
• Subway: use the Central exit for elevators (street level/JR concourse to the subway concourse, and concourse to platform). [3]
• The subway station has 6 multipurpose (ostomate) toilets and platform doors. [3]
