All seats in all classes are reserved, so book ahead: online (free membership, card payment only) from 0:00 two months before the sailing date until 1 hour before departure, or by phone with the customer centre (9:30–18:00, from two months ahead). Phone bookings are paid at the port on the day. Check in at least 15 minutes before departure.

- Until 28 Oct 2026 Tokai Kisen runs a temporary timetable because some of its ships were ordered out of service by the transport authorities; check before travelling.
- Which port a ship uses on each island is decided on the day: check the operating status page or ask your accommodation.
- Be at the port about 1 hour before departure.
- If your ship back is cancelled by weather you may have to wait for the next day's ship, at your own cost for the extra night.
- Fares include a fuel surcharge and change from month to month; children (under 12 and primary-school pupils) pay half.
- Aogashima is reached from Hachijojima by Izu Shoto Kaihatsu's boat, which has its own timetable.
