No booking needed. Unreserved 2nd-class seats cannot be booked: buy the ticket at the terminal window on the day. Reserved seats, 1st class and cars can be booked from 2 months ahead (same day) online or by phone. Bicycles and motorbikes cannot be booked: first come, first served, so arrive 1 hour before departure.

- From 1 October 2026 (until about 28 February 2027) the ferry at Esashi leaves from the Shin-kita pier because of berth works; a free shuttle bus runs there from the ferry terminal.
- While the shuttle bus runs, finish check-in at the Esashi terminal at least 40 min before departure.
- Bad weather (typhoons, low-pressure systems) can cancel sailings, sometimes at short notice.
- You board by gangway (no boarding bridge); staff help wheelchair users.
- Primary-school children pay half fare; up to two children under school age travel free with each adult (not in reserved seats).
