Booking recommended. Book ahead: tickets go on sale two months before the Tokyo departure date (the Tokyo sailing and the following return together; busy seasons have fixed sale days). Book online, by phone with Ogasawara Kaiun (weekdays 10:00–16:00, pay by bank transfer), at the Tokai Kisen Takeshiba branch or at travel agencies. Same-day tickets are sold at Takeshiba from 10:00 only if seats are left. Check in at counter 8 at Takeshiba between 9:30 and about 10:40.

• Same-day 2nd class tickets are usually available except at New Year, Golden Week, the August Obon week and September holidays; phone first to check.
• Arrive at Takeshiba at least 30 minutes before departure.
• Mobile phones lose signal soon after leaving Tokyo Bay; there are satellite pay phones on board (100-yen coins) and paid Wi-Fi.
• Meals are not included; there is a restaurant, a shop and vending machines on board.
